“I<\/strong>n later forms of Buddhism, especially with Nagarjuna you have more of an incorporation of the Middle Way, which is more compatible with the Wave\/Particle Structure of Matter Theory because it allows for a balance between wave and particle without saying existence either of particles or non-existence of particles is inherently true. However, again if strict adherence is placed on emptiness then you lose compatibility with Quantum Physics because particles are still important to the science.<\/em>
In the latest forms of Buddhism, mainly Tibetan Buddhism, you have a more flexible view of sunyata and anatman which allows for a more qualitative view of emptiness without losing the original meaning of Buddhism, that ultimately all things are interconnected. Buddha, the Self, and other entities are seen in a more qualitative way where they can be spoke of as real, without losing the real essence of sunyata and anatman, which is non-dualism.<\/em>“<\/mark>

…\u201cOne may ask, Apart from misrepresenting reality, what is wrong with believing in the independent, intrinsic existence of things? For Nagarjuna, this belief has serious negative consequences. Nagarjuna argues that it is the belief in intrinsic existence that sustains the basis for a self-perpetuating dysfunction in our engagement with the world and with our fellow sentient beings.”…”In other words, Nagarjuna argues that grasping at the independent existence of things leads to affliction, which in turn gives rise to a chain of destructive actions, reactions, and suffering. In the final analysis, for Nagarjuna, the theory of emptiness is not a question of the mere conceptual understanding of reality. It has profound psychological and ethical implications.\u201d<\/em>
   \u201cI once asked my physicist friend David Bohm this question: From the perspective of modern science, apart from the question of misrepresentation, what is wrong with the belief in the independent existence of things? His response was telling. He said that if we examine the various ideologies that tend to divide humanity, such as racism, extreme nationalism, and the M.a.r.x.i.s.t c.l.a.ss s.t.r.u.g.g.le, one of the key factors of their origin is the tendency to perceive things as inherently divided and disconnected. From this misconception springs the belief that each of these divisions is essentially independent and self-existent. Bohm\u2019s response, grounded in his work in quantum physics, echoes the ethical concern about harboring such beliefs that had worried Nagarjuna, who wrote nearly two thousand years before.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

…\u201dIn the light of such scientific discoveries, I feel that Buddhism too must be willing to adapt the rudimentary physics of its early atomic theories, despite their long-established authority within the tradition.\u201d\u2026\u201cIn view of this capability, I have made a strong case on several occasions for the introduction of basic physics into the studies of the Tibetan monastic colleges. I argued that we would not in fact be introducing a new subject; rather we would be updating an inherent part of the curriculum. I am happy that the academic monastic colleges now hold regular workshops on modern physics. These workshops are run by physics professors and some of their senior graduate students from Western universities. I hope that this initiative will ultimately result in the full entry of modern physics into the regular philosophical curriculum in Tibetan monasteries.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

…\u201cThe paradoxical nature of reality revealed in both the Buddhist philosophy of emptiness and modern physics represents a profound challenge to the limits of human knowledge. The essence of the problem is epistemological: How do we conceptualize and understand reality coherently? Not only have Buddhist philosophers of emptiness developed an entire understanding of the world based on the rejection of the deeply ingrained temptation to treat reality as if it were composed of intrinsically real objective entities but they have also striven to live these insights in their day-to-day lives. The Buddhist solution to this seeming epistemological contradiction involves understanding reality in terms of the theory of two truths. Physics needs to develop an epistemology that will help resolve the seemingly unbridgeable gulf between the picture of reality in classical physics and everyday experience and that in their quantum mechanics counterpart.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
